It’s hard to talk about technology in the real estate space without bringing up big players like Realtor.com. By combining their access to listing data from over 900 MLSs with name recognition and the clout which comes with being the official consumer-facing website of the National Association of Realtors, it’s no wonder that they’re a prime destination for house-hunting consumers. In this video, which features Benutech’s Brian Fox talking with National Director of Events for Realtor.com, Andrew Dorn, we learned some things that we didn’t know about consumers’ relationships with the site, for example, that it is increasingly also being used by potential home sellers as a way to shop for innovative agents who are standouts in the neighborhood.
Hello, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Brian Fox. I’m with Benutech, and we’re here today in Long Beach, California at the Long Beach Convention Center. We’re going to be interviewing different tech companies, real estate companies, service facilities for you that hopefully can, you know, play a part and help enhance your real estate careers.
BRIAN FOX: Hello, it’s Brian Fox, and I’m with ReboReports, and I’m here today with Andrew Dorn with Realtor.com. Andrew, Realtor.com is here in the Long Beach Convention Center for the Expo. What is it that makes Realtor.com special, why are you guys here today?
ANDREW DORN: Realtor.com is very special because it really is the online marketplace for real estate, where you can see all available properties and listings in the country. We have contracts with over 900 MLSs, and most of these MLSs update their information on Realtor.com every 15 minutes, so the data is really accurate and it’s really fresh.
FOX: Very good. Your competitors, what makes you guys different than your competitors, the other companies? I imagine like homes.com and some of the others that are out there, what makes you different?
DORN: We are the official website for the National Association of Realtors, which also makes us stand out from the crowd.
FOX: And Realtor.com name doesn’t hurt.
FOX: That obviously helps.
DORN: Yeah, everybody knows that.
FOX: Exactly. For Realtors, biggest benefit for Realtors for the use of Realtor.com, what would that be?
DORN: I think the biggest benefit is to connect to consumers. Realtor.com is the destination for people looking to both buy and sell, because sometimes sellers are so savvy today, they’ll actually look and see what Realtors are doing on Realtor.com to be different. So they’ll actually go on Realtor.com or a site like it, and a lot of the traffic is on Realtor.com, and say “Oh, wow, this person right here, this Realtor actually does something exclusive for my home, so I’m different in the marketplace. My home looks better than this home. Let’s go with that Realtor, let’s call that Realtor and see what they’re doing. So I think that kind of sums it up, is to make sure that you stand out on the number 1 real estate website in the United States.
